3 Big Ideas, Tips or Strategies for this week

1. Six leadership styles

Research found that six distinctive leadership styles and when to use the right style to have the greatest positive impact.

  • Coercive leaders demand immediate compliance.
  • Authoritative leaders mobilise people towards a vision.
  • Affiliative leaders create emotional bonds and harmony.
  • Democratic leaders build consensus through participation.
  • Pace-setting leaders expect excellence and self-direction.
  • Coaching leaders develop people for the future.

2. One minute wonder

When was the last time you saw someone who had to reassert control over a situation? Perhaps it was your boss, or a manager of another team? How well did they do it? Did they rise to meet the situation or back away? Did they take responsibility or hide from it? Did they keep cool or bite anyone’s head off who questioned them? There’s a lot to be learned from how others have dealt with tough situations.

3. Response-ability

When things go wrong in your team what happens? Do people look for someone to blame? Blaming others is a waste of everyone’s time. It also means you lack ‘response-ability’. The ability to take ownership and select the right response in a situation.

2 Stories, Quotes, or Case-Studies for this week

1. Shake off your problems

A man’s favourite donkey falls into a deep precipice. He can’t pull it out no matter how hard he tries. He therefore decides to bury it alive.

Soil is poured onto the donkey from above. The donkey feels the load, shakes it off, and steps on it. More soil is poured.

It shakes it off and steps up. The more the load was poured, the higher it rose. By noon, the donkey was grazing in green pastures.

After much shaking off (of problems) And stepping up (learning from them), One will graze in GREEN PASTURES.

2. On God’s time

A man walked to the top of a hill to talk to God.

The man asked, “God, what’s a million years to you?” and God said, “A minute.”

Then the man asked, “Well, what’s a million dollars to you?” and God said, “A penny.”

Then the man asked, “God…..can I have a penny?” and God said, “Sure…..in a minute.”
