3 Big Ideas, Tips or Strategies for this week
1. Gratitude
Did you know that gratitude has been shown to have numerous psychological and physical benefits? Research has shown that expressing gratitude can increase happiness, improve relationships, boost self-esteem, and even improve physical health. It has also been linked to better sleep and increased feelings of optimism and hope. These findings suggest that cultivating gratitude can be an effective way to improve well-being and quality of life.
2. Martin Seligman
The term “positive psychology” was coined by Martin Seligman, the former President of the American Psychological Association (APA). Seligman is credited with founding the field of positive psychology, which focuses on the study of positive emotions, character strengths, and well-being. He is known for his work on resilience and optimism, and his theories have influenced the development of interventions and practices that aim to enhance well-being and promote flourishing.
3. First Computer
The world’s first computer was the size of a room and took up almost 2,000 square feet. The Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) was developed by the United States Army during World War II and was used to calculate artillery firing tables. It contained 18,000 vacuum tubes, weighed 30 tons, and consumed 150 kilowatts of power. Today, computers are much smaller and more powerful, with most laptops and smartphones containing more processing power than the ENIAC.

2 Stories, Quotes, or Case-Studies for this week
1. Chocolate Bar – Origin Story
The first chocolate bar was made by Joseph Fry in 1847. Fry was a British confectioner who discovered that he could make a mouldable chocolate paste by mixing cocoa butter with ground cocoa beans. He poured the paste into a mould and allowed it to harden, creating the first chocolate bar. Today, chocolate is enjoyed by people all over the world and is a multi-billion dollar industry.
2. Hope
During the Holocaust, a young boy named Elie Wiesel was imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Despite the horrors he witnessed and experienced, Elie had one superpower with him. He never lost hope. He clung to the belief that one day, he would be reunited with his family and that the world would eventually be a better place.
After surviving the war, Elie dedicated his life to sharing his story and advocating for justice and human rights. Through his writing and activism, he inspired countless others to never lose hope and to work towards creating a more just and compassionate world.
Hope can be a powerful force, even in the darkest of times. It shows that even in the face of unimaginable suffering, it is possible to hold on to hope and to use it as a driving force for positive change.
