3 Big Ideas, Tips or Strategies for this week
1.
And Then Some. Napoleon Hill always made sure his audiences knew the principle of going the extra mile. If you promise something, make sure that your customer gets exactly what you promised and then some. Remember the phrase: “…and then some!”
2.
Over-the-top Confidence. For an example of over-the-top confidence, look at Mad Money’s Jim Cramer (CNBC). Like any financial advisor, he has a mixed record of accuracy in his forecasts for markets and individual stocks. Nevertheless, he has his own television show and a huge following.
A big key to Cramer’s success in building an audience is his confidence and appearance of expertise. When a phone call comes in with a question about a relatively obscure company, Cramer reels off the ticker symbol, gives a quick synopsis of what the company does and why he likes or doesn’t like it, and gives a firm buy or sell recommendation (complete with sound effects and flashing lights). No waffling, no alternative scenarios, no neutral “hold” recommendations—just a quick demonstration of deep knowledge and a firm, unambiguous opinion. That’s confidence, and it works for Cramer.

3.
Leadership Strategy. Find out and write down the answer to the question “What is your message to the world?” – then you will have everything you need to write a book, shoot a video, deliver a presentation, speak on stages or start a movement. Messaging is the key.
____________
1. The Shortest Story
One day Ernest Hemingway was having lunch with friends and they were talking about the importance of writing with brevity.
Hemingway bet everyone at the table ten dollars each that he could craft an entire story in six words.
After the pot was assembled, Hemingway took a napkin and wrote down the following six words:
“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”
Everyone paid up without saying a word.
2. Judo Lessons
A 9-year-old boy who had lost his right arm in a car accident, decided to take judo lessons. His teacher was an old Japanese judo master who decided to teach the kid one move only.
After a few lessons the boy said to him “Master, shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “No. This only move you know is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” he replied.
Six months later, the boy had his first tournament. To everyone’s surprise, the boy won the first three matches and got in the finals. The other boy, his opponent, was bigger and stronger than him. Everyone thought that the boy had no chance to win.
The match begun and the opponent, indeed seemed much more experienced than the little boy. Suddenly the opponent dropped his guard, which was a critical mistake. The boy used the only move he knew to pin him and won the tournament.
Later, the Master told the boy: “Son, you won for two reasons,” the Master answered, “First, after six months’ hard practice you have almost mastered one of the most difficult throws. And second, the only known defence for that move is for your opponent to grab your right arm.”
And this is how the boy’s biggest weakness turned into his biggest strength!
